Capcom announced a new Strider being developed by Double Helix ( the studio handling Xbox One’s Killer Instinct ) at San Diego Comic-Con yesterday.

This is a game that you can say has had a long time coming. Capcom announcing Strider yesterday at the Con is a great thing.

Seems that the new Strider will be a side-scroller with 3D graphics and nonlinear levels just as Metroid or Castlevania but that is no surprise considering the original game was a side-scrolling platform.

Main Hero Strider Hiryu will collect a variety of new upgrades for his sword, the Cypher, as well as sporting some new abilities. Strider’s trademark scarf is now a “plasma scarf,” that will change colors based on what ability the ninja has equipped.

Double Helix Studios will be collaborating with Capcom developers including the designer of Super Ghouls ‘n’ Ghosts and the enemy artist to Strider 2.

All I can say this takes me back to 7th grade I spent so many hours on the original game and loved just the hack and slash elements. I look forward to seeing what a Next Gen Strider will be like.

I am putting the trailer in case you have not seen it yet.

Looking forward to this!

Strider will be available as a digital download only on Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in 2014.
