Bungie’s Destiny and My Hopes for the Game.

Yes I know that the game is not even scheduled for this year but one can’t help but be excited.

destiny-logoWith Sunday’s reveal from Bungie about their next big franchise titled Destiny. Pre-orders have already been taken and Activision who are partnered with Bungie stated to not expect the game at all during 2013.

Bungie had a ViDoc where they went into more details on what exactly is Destiny. First here is a little bit of the story that is quoted straight from the Video.

“Our story begins seven hundred years from now in the Last City on Earth, in a Solar System littered with the ruins of man’s Golden Age. A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it’s here for, but only that it’s our protector. Meanwhile, strange, alien monsters creep in from the edge of the universe, determined to take Earth and the Last City. We are young ‘knights’ tasked with defending the remains of humanity, discovering the source of these monsters and – eventually – overcoming it.”

Bungie is expected to reach a wide range of gamers and create a rich universe such along the lines of Star Wars. The game is set to be social at it’s core and though it has a “MMO” feel to it I am sure the first M will be minimal.

According to Bungie Co-Founder Jason JonesDestiny is designed for your inner seven year old. We want to make it feel like a mythic adventure.”  This statement puts a lot of hope in my eyes if anyone can make a “Star Wars” type game where the lore is immersive it can be Bungie. This may keep me from playing anything else.

The game is set to release on all game systems possible. Previously, some court documents (which were how the existence of the game was first leaked) detailed an agreement whereby Xbox 360 (and its successor) would be the first console to gain access to the game, followed later by PS3 (and its successor) and PC. The logo would seem to suggest a closer release schedule between the PS consoles and the Xbox consoles.

If you all remember in those court documents it was also hinted that there would be some form of “Cross-Platform” play. So if someone has an Xbox 360 and has a friend playing on a PS3 it was suppose to be possible. This I hope is still in the works and has me very intrigued. Can you imagine the first game that crosses all platforms to get people together to play. This would be awesome. especially on the next gen consoles since they seem to be close to if not even specs.

I cannot wait to play with people in whatever version they own and just explore Bungie’s new universe. Going back to the court documents the game is listed to be released in Fall of 2013 as the first date but as I said that does not seem to be Activision’s M.O right now.

Bungie's Destiny posters arriving at GameStopGameStop has also taken pre-orders for the game and is giving those that do pre-order a double sided poster. I have my copy and the poster is beautiful and makes it hard to decide what side I want to display. Bungie's Destiny posters arriving at GameStop

Destiny, according to documentation provided with the posters, lets you create your own character and earn unique and customizable weapons, gear and vehicles in an always-connected universe. The game is described as an FPS with cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes, combined with public and social activities.

I will post up a link to the YouTube video for Bungie’s ViDoc below watch it and let me know what you catch in the reveal that I may have missed.
