Warren Spector and Junction Point Studios are gone.

Earlier today it was reported that the studio behind Epic Mickey has closed down.

Yesterday a rumor spread that Disney  would be closing down the studio. Seems the rumor was on point as the announcement came earlier today. In a statement made by a representative for the company clearly shows:

“It was with much sadness that we informed our teams today of changes to our Games organization, which include the closure of Junction Point Studios. These changes are part of our ongoing effort to address the fast-evolving gaming platforms and marketplace and to align resources against our key priorities. We’re extremely grateful to Warren Spector and the Junction Point team for their creative contributions to Disney with Disney Epic Mickey and Disney Epic Mickey 2.”

Well I am sure they would have kept the studio if Epic Mickey 2 was not a critical and commercial disappointment. The game did not do that well considering it was on more platform than the original title selling just 270,000 copies.

Seems with the purchase of LucasFilm and LucasArts the “house of mouse” is not desperate for people to make games for them.

Always a sad day when people lose their jobs. I hope everyone at Junction Point Studios get picked up by someone soon.

    1. In this house we loved the first Epic Mickey. Still waiting for it to go down in price but Disney just was not having it which is sad.
