Disney Meets Skylanders…Say Hello to Disney Infinity

Disney has announced yesterday the reveal of Disney’s Infinity. What is it well let’s find out.

Disney reaches into the Toy Box with the new Infinity platformDisney's been working on a new gaming "platform," designed to bring all of its properties together in one IP spanning across multiple consoles and outlets and we now know it to be Disney’s Infinity. The game is played with real toys that interact with their digital worlds. Yes you are right if you are thinking Skylanders.

The company behind Disney’s Infinity is Avalanche Software who developed the “Toy Box” idea as part of the Toy Story 3 video game they worked on.

The game is set to arrive this June and will consist of a game bundled with 3 figures: Jack Sparrow, Mr. Incredible and Sully each from their respected movie franchises. Oh and there will be “Play Sets” as well. The sets are designed for each character so if you are playing with Mr. Incredible the play set will be about his city that he and his family protect.

Do not think you will be able to see Sully sail the open seas with Jack Sparrow’s Ship the black pearl because the play sets are “self-contained worlds.” So as to cater to fans who don’t want these worlds messed up.

Not to worry though as the game has a sandbox area where the characters can interact with each other and you can make it your own world.

The collectable figures will also have “Power Discs” which are circular discs that sit underneath the characters that give them in game character buffs. There’s also one shaped like a hexagon that will unlock content or add a new toy for your world.

The Starter packs will be priced at $74.99 and the Play Sets will be $34.99 also the Power Discs will be available in a pack for $4.99  and will be set to release on Wii, WiiU, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. One way or the other this will be where you can see it and play it.

What do you think is Disney on a major gaming franchise. I can just imagine the cross-promotions on it’s way. Maybe one day they will add the Marvel Universe and the Star Wars Universe to it as well.
